Motivation is such an important part of life, work and play.
It’s something we need to harness and nourish so we can get to where we want to get to.
But how do we do that?
For me, the first thing that I have to do is to make sure that what I’m working towards genuinely feels right and “fits”. If it doesn’t, then there is no way on earth I will generate and maintain the motivation necessary for success. Now way.
Whereas if I really want to work towards something or achieve a goal, if it aligns with my values, if I have no doubt that it’s the best thing for me, then harnessing the motivation is easier.
Nourishing that motivation and keeping it going until I’ve achieved my goal is a little harder and an ongoing project.
To begin with, I write down my goal:
- clearly define the goal,
- what it means to me,
- what achieving the goal will bring,
- what not achieving the goal will cause
- who will be impacted,
- what life, work or family will be like when I’ve achieved it.
If I can, I’ll create a vision board or add a picture or statement to my pinboard.
I understand that motivation and achieving goals isn’t a one step process.
But if it’s right for me, my family or my team – or all of us, then it will happen.
I’ll make sure of it.
What helps you achieve your goals?
