If your home needs a revamp whether it’s to make you fall in love with it again or in preparation to sell, here are our top tips to breathe some new life into your home:
- Repaint – inside or out, or both. A fresh coat of paint is ideal to make a tired home look bright and fresh again. You’re best to stick with white tones if you’re prepping for sale or you could explore some exciting colour palettes if you’re feeling brave. Painting external bricks can give an old house a whole new look at a much lower price than rendering. And if you’re not quite ready to paint brickwork then a good wash with a gurney will work wonders!
- What’s going on with your windows? Do you have old aluminum window frames or sticky sash windows? Do you have old, broken venetian or vertical blinds or outdated curtains? You can always spray paint aluminum window frames for a fraction of the cost of replacing them, and you can sand, repair and paint wooden windows and replace blind and soft furnishings. Think about your budget and decide on what will give you the most bang for your buck.
- Take a fresh look at your entrance. How’s your front door looking? Are you greeted by school bags, shoes, keys, dog leads, etc, etc, etc when you first walk in? What can you do to make this space look more open and inviting?
- Update flooring – could your carpets do with a good shampoo or is it time to replace them with either new carpet, tiles or floorboards? Again, take a look at your budget and see what options suit your family and the look and feel you love or what is popular with potential buyers.
- Replace splashbacks, countertops, taps and cupboard handles – if your cabinetry is still in good shape and your budget doesn’t stretch to a new kitchen, you could look into replacing your splashbacks and/or your countertops or even just your tapware. Even just swapping out cupboard handles could make a huge difference
- Similarly with the bathroom. Rather than the expensive option of re-doing your whole bathroom, you could replace your vanity, sink, tapware, shower screen, bath or toilet.
- Finally, take a look at your outside space. Could your garden do with some TLC? Can you build that outdoor kitchen you’ve always dreamed of? Would a pergola give you another room?
There’s often so much you can do with your home. The first step is to figure out your goal, then your budget and then the fun begins!
