A few years ago I came across the acronym BHAG and I love it!
BHAG is a Big Hairy Audacious Goal. Doesn’t that paint a beautiful picture? Well maybe not beautiful with all that hair, but it really does conjure up amazing images of something that is compelling yet a little scary. Something that will push me out of my comfort zone and help me strive for more of whatever it is I’m striving for. It kind of makes me imagine that Sasquatch is my trainer and coach! And I wouldn’t want to let him down, would you?
It is a term coined by Jim Collins and Jerry Porras in their book, Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies but I think we should all have BHAGs and they shouldn’t be limited to companies.
Having well defined BHAGs (that truly are audacious) has helped me achieve more in my business and person life than I could ever have imagined possible. They’re more than a “stretch goal” and far more inspiring.
They’re the goals that I come up with when I throw all limiting beliefs, barriers and fears out the window. They make me brave, bold, daring and excited.
They have a ton of energy vibrating with them that I can’t help but be drawn into.
Without BHAGs I would never have owned my own business, let alone a multiple award winning company with a fabulous team of 10 amazing women, all with diverse skills, talents and passions. This allows us to achieve more, be more, give more and help more – which is exactly why I became a mortgage broker!
I would have never imagined that this would all be possible while raising our four beautiful sons, owning our own properties and renovating our home to become our dream home.
Whilst life isn’t always perfect – because life just isn’t, BHAGs have helped me create a vision, a purpose, motivation and structure to achieve more than I’d dreamed possible. And every day I’m grateful for these four little letters and the life that I’ve built thanks to their propulsion.
What’s your BHAG?
Have you come across something like this that is truly life changing?
