Summer is fast approaching and our minds tend to turn to our outdoor space right about now.

How is it looking? Do you need to invest time or money to make it more functional for relaxing or entertaining?

It’s really important to think of your outdoor space as an extension of your home – whether it’s a balcony on your apartment or a yard on your house. How can you optimise the space?

My suggestions:

  1. Figure out what you need? What stage is your family at? What are you missing in your home? Is it more play space for the kids? More relaxation space for you? An outdoor eating/entertaining area? Somewhere to get your hands dirty with a garden?
  2. Once you’ve figured out what you need, start looking for inspiration. Check out your favourite shops, hardware stores or garden centres. Pinterest is also great to get ideas and start a board.
  3. Plan what you want to do and what you need to make it the perfect space.
  4. Throw out, donate or upcycle anything that is no longer being used so that you can make room and start fresh.
  5. Roll up your sleeves and give it a good clean.
  6. Get to work with your transformation.
  7. Add fairy or festoon lights – because every outdoor space needs lovely lighting!
  8. Enjoy your new space!
