As a female business owner, employing a team of fabulous women, with a mission of empowering women to take control of their finances, International Women’s Day is a big deal to me.
It’s really not so long ago that life was very different for us.
We were often stay at home mothers, prohibited to even work once we were married, let alone own a business. The concept of independently buying our own home was unimaginable.
Today, things are different, but sadly, we’re still a long way from where we should be with gender equality. The Financy Women’s Index™ (FWX) estimates that it will take 138 years until we reach equality in education and expected earnings in Australia – which is astounding!
So let’s keep the conversation going, keep applauding the women doing the extraordinary – as well as the ordinary. Let’s raise our children – sons and daughters, to expect equality as well as give it.
Equally importantly, let’s recognise the sectors, companies, the boards, the people who are fighting the fight, supporting women to be our very best, to live our dreams and be recognised for what we bring to the table.
And let’s continue to call for more, and let’s continue to live the life we dream of – whether it’s in the boardroom, the home, somewhere in between or a combination of all of the above.
