Taking personal responsibility for your outcomes is such a big thing in my opinion. It allows you to totally own your victories as well as your mistakes – or opportunities for learning, as I prefer to call them.
So why is it such a big deal and why do so many people avoid it?
Whether it’s the state of your career, your bank balance, your fitness, or anything else in life, chances are pretty high that they’re in that state – good or bad, because of your actions.
So own it. Celebrate your wins and learn from what’s not going so well. Figure out a way to change it, fix it, improve it. But the first step will always be to own it.
The thing that was totally holding me back in life was my spending. I spent money like I was a millionaire – until I couldn’t. I was working on a ship (in the days before online shopping was such a big thing), and there was literally nothing I could spend money on except for the couple of days ashore we had each month.
I found that I liked watching my bank balance grow instead of my wardrobe. I didn’t need anything, but I did want to buy a house. So my focus changed to saving rather than spending.
And now here I am helping other people achieve their home ownership dreams and reform their spending habits.
It didn’t happen until I owned it though.
What lessons have made the biggest changes in your life?
